Terms of Service

Effective date: 20 October 2026 · Last updated: 20 October 2026

These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) are a legal agreement between Sigeel (“Sigeel”, “we”, “us”), a sole-proprietor business operating the Sigeel API, and the person or entity accessing or using the Sigeel API (“you”, “Customer”). By creating an API key, accessing the API, or subscribing to a paid plan, you agree to these Terms.

Sigeel is a sanctions-screening API. It screens names against the US Treasury OFAC Specially Designated Nationals (SDN) list and returns ranked matches with confidence scores and Ed25519-signed receipts. Sigeel is a screening tool, not a compliance program, and it does not provide legal advice.

1. The Service

Sigeel provides a hosted HTTP API that accepts a name and returns probable matches against the OFAC SDN list. The service includes:

Access is provided immediately after a free signup or after a paid subscription is activated. There is no physical shipment.

2. Accounts and API Keys

Sigeel does not use traditional user accounts. Access is granted through an API key. Every key comes with a separate recovery token that can be used exactly once to rotate the key if it is lost or compromised. You are responsible for keeping both the API key and the recovery token confidential. Sigeel stores only SHA-256 hashes of these values and cannot recover a lost key or recovery token.

You must provide a valid email address when creating a free key or purchasing a paid plan. Sigeel uses this email only for account-related communication and does not sell it.

3. Plans, Fees, and Billing

Paid plans are billed on a recurring monthly basis at the prices shown on the pricing page. The current plans are:

Screenings beyond your monthly quota are billed at $0.01 per screening. Your usage is reported in the usage field of each /screen response and is available from GET /api/me.

Paddle is the Merchant of Record for fiat payments. When you pay by card, the transaction is processed by Paddle.com Market Ltd. or its affiliates (“Paddle”), and Paddle’s terms of service apply to the payment in addition to these Terms. Paddle handles sales-tax calculation, invoicing, and refund processing. Crypto payments are processed separately by NOWPayments and are not handled by Paddle.

4. Refunds

Refund eligibility is described in our Refund Policy. In short: first-time paid subscriptions are eligible for a refund within 14 days of the initial charge, subject to the conditions in that policy. Refunds for fiat payments are processed by Paddle; refunds for crypto payments are processed by Sigeel.

5. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

We may suspend or revoke access if we reasonably believe these restrictions have been violated, or if required by law or by a payment provider.

6. Service Availability

Sigeel aims to be available at all times, but the service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. The API may be unavailable during maintenance, cold starts, or upstream provider outages. We do not currently offer a service-level agreement (SLA) on self-serve plans. Enterprise customers may request an SLA by contacting us.

7. Data and Privacy

Sigeel does not persist the names you submit to /screen. Queries are processed in memory and discarded. We store a monthly counter per API key for billing, along with the email address you provide and a SHA-256 hash of your API key and recovery token. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why, and how long we keep it.

8. Intellectual Property

Sigeel owns the API, its documentation, and its signing infrastructure. The OFAC SDN list is a US government work and is in the public domain. You retain ownership of any application or product you build using the API; we claim no rights over your code or your customers.

9. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Sigeel is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, revenue, data, or business opportunity, arising from your use of the API. Sigeel’s total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you paid to Sigeel in the twelve months preceding the claim.

Sigeel is a screening aid. A “clear” result does not confirm that a person or entity is unsanctioned, and a “match” does not confirm that they are sanctioned. You are responsible for reviewing results and for your own compliance obligations.

10. Termination

You may stop using the service at any time. Paid subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled through the Paddle customer portal or by contacting us. We may terminate or suspend access for material breach of these Terms, non-payment, or suspected fraud. On termination, your API key is revoked and any unused portion of a prepaid period is handled according to the Refund Policy.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the API after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
