How it works
JSON in, JSON out. Built for teams who need to show their work — not just get an answer.
POST a name to /screen with your API key. JSON in, JSON out.
Each candidate returns a confidence score, the exact alias that matched, the OFAC record details, and a recommended action — escalate or manual review.
Every response is signed with Ed25519. Verify it offline against our public key, then store the whole envelope as your audit artifact.
Features
Double Metaphone phonetics plus token-level scoring. "Victor Bout" matches "Viktor Anatoljevitch Bout".
Every match carries a 0–100 score. 95+ is escalate. 70–94 is manual review. You tune the threshold.
Each response includes an Ed25519 signature and public key. Verify any result offline, months later.
Every response reports which OFAC SDN build was checked — entity count and timestamp included.
Diacritics, punctuation, inverted name order, whitespace — all normalized. "LOPEZ, Maria Carmen" ≡ "Maria del Carmen Lopez".
In-memory phonetic and trigram indexes over ~44,000 name variants. No database of your queries.
Works from any language, any backend, any agent. No SDK required.
A lookup becomes a signed, timestamped, independently verifiable record. Show your work, every time.
The API
Sigeel screens individual and entity names against the OFAC Specially Designated Nationals list and returns ranked matches with a 0–100 confidence score, a recommended action, and a cryptographically signed receipt.

FAQ
Only the US Treasury OFAC SDN list. We do not currently include EU, UN, or UK consolidated lists. If you need multi-list screening, that's on the roadmap — tell us.
No. Sigeel is a screening tool. A "clear" result does not confirm someone is unsanctioned, and a "match" does not confirm they are sanctioned. Results must be reviewed by a qualified person as part of your own compliance process. This is not legal advice.
GET /pubkey returns the current Ed25519 public key. The signature is over the canonical JSON body (sorted keys, compact separators, UTF-8). Any Ed25519 library can verify it — we publish a reference verifier.
Screenings continue and are billed at $0.01 each. Your response includes a usage.overage field so you always know where you stand.
That's the point. Double Metaphone phonetics and token-level scoring mean "Victor" matches "Viktor", inverted name order still matches, and diacritics are normalized. Weak matches land in manual review instead of disappearing.
No. Requests are processed in memory and not persisted. We store a monthly counter per API key for billing — nothing about who you screened.
The OFAC SDN list is rebuilt monthly. Every response tells you exactly which build was used, so you can prove which version a screening ran against.
Not currently. Sigeel runs as a hosted API. Contact us if you need a private deployment.
